Engines
Gas Turbines, Two Strokes, Four Strokes, Stationary, Marine even old Suffolk Lawnmower engines. At one time or another I’ve worked on them all.
Here at AJL Classic Engineering we can rebuild practically anything given the budget and Spare Parts. When we have to we out source machining to trusted specialists in their field who have the same dedication and standards that we at AJL strive to achieve every time.

Fuel Injection
Kugelfischer, Bosch D-Jetronic, Bosch L-Jetronic, and that’s just the Lancias’. Here at AJL Classic Engineering, due to the fact that a lot of the classics we work with, or own, have either mechanical or electrical Fuel Injection we are more than happy to service, repair or even modify existing systems or design a system that best suits your car.

Mechanical
In many respects engines should come under the heading Mechanical, but they have their own set of engineering standards, and techniques. For us at AJL Classic Engineering mechanical covers everything from a gearbox rebuild to the insides of an obsolete electrical switch that needs attention. First and foremost our mantra is cleanliness followed by that old Rolls Royce Favourite “The feel of a good technician” that is if it feels right it invariably is right. The same mantra can easily be applied to “If it looks right” as well.
The demands of Air Sea Rescue, Mountain Rescue, and Military aviation have had a marked effect on the standards we demand of ourselves. Our ethos is very much up to a standard rather than down to a price.

Modifications
This can be a controversial subject, where Ironically some enthusiasts of the most mundane of cars can, and do, get quite flustered about the fitment of say an Alternator to a car that originally had a Dynamo while a lot of owners are more than happy to modify thus adapting to modern driving conditions.
The illustration is of a Lancia Gamma suspension strut, which are almost impossible to find, being stripped to allow us to reverse engineer both a seal kit and chrome rod.

Trim work
The inside of a car is the part you interact with the most. Sure when your parked up in a car park or at a show you admire what you see. People come up to you and pay you complements on what they also see “My Dad had one of them” etc. Its not until you open the door that the true nostalgia comes flooding back, the smell, the feel, that’s where the real memories are. Plastic seats on hot days. The feel of the controls, its what makes our hobby personal.
All of our trim work is carried out off the premises by trusted professionals who meet our exacting standards. Because we understand that these cars are full of memories we will where possible try to maintain these for our customers, but as we all know there comes a time where it all becomes to scruffy to live with, and something needs to be done. Or as is the case of one of our cars, the Leather has been badly repaired and needs a sympathetic approach to any remedial works carried out. We will confess to preferring the inside of our own cars – as can be seen in the photo above of our Lancia Flavia – to still bare witness to the individual histories they each contain.
We at AJL Classic Engineering understand this, and will strive to be as sympathetic as possible with all original trim. We can, if desired, Retrim to show standards.

Bodywork
Here at AJL Classic Engineering we make no secret of the fact that we, like the County in which we reside, are small. We are very much limited by space on the bodywork projects we can carry out on site. However where we think it prudent, we will contract out bodywork to a local company who were introduced to us as certainly the best in the area if not the East of England.
Due to the quality of the bodywork that is being carried out on our own Flavia. The Lancia Flavia 2000 Consortium has asked us to manufacture a set of Patterns and Drawings for the Manufacture of body panels for them.

Electrical
From a fuse to a full rewire here at AJL Classic Engineering we are more than happy to do all electrical work. If we think that an existing wiring loom is repairable we will strive to achieve this for our customer, splicing in new wire where necessary.
Our Loom Repairs in the Subsea industry have regularly been exposed to pressures in excess of 200 bar with 110 volts AC Passing through them, not shorting either to the sea or another circuit, and they are constantly monitored by instruments capable of measuring insulation changes in Gigga Ohms.
